Faith-Based Counseling
Everything we need to know about ourselves and how we are to relate to others is found in the word of God.
All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
There is a direct correlation of CBT to Paul’s ministry in the New Testament. Paul understood that maintaining a sound mind requires exchanging deceptive thoughts from the enemy for the truth of God’s Word and actively engaging in spiritual disciplines.
Paul said…
Be transformed by the renewing of your mind – Romans 12:2
Be made new in the attitude of you mind – Ephesians 4:23
The peace of God will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus – Philippians 4:7
If anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things – Philippians 4:8
Set your mind on things above – Colossians 3:2
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
I have experienced and witnessed how the lies of the enemy have led to strongholds that can destroy the mind. If not armored up (Ephesians 6:10-18) spiritual warfare keeps individuals in physical and emotional bondage. The word of God is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12) and brings freedom to the mind, soul, and body (2 Corinthians 3:17). You will experience challenges, hardships, trauma, and rejection (John 16:33) but God uses these to produce perseverance, character, and hope (Romans 5:3-4). You have the promise that God is with you (Psalm 54:4) and he will, himself, restore you (1 Peter 5:10).
Solution-Focused Therapy
The very core of solution-focused therapy is to find solutions not problems, look forward not behind, find what works and keep doing it. Jesus is a man of forward motion as evidenced in the New Testament. In Luke 10:24-37, Jesus’ response to the scholar who asked questions he already knew the answers to was “…go and do.” In John 5:1-17, Jesus’s response to the excuse of the blind paralytic was, “take up your bed and walk.” Every command required an action to move forward. Go and do better, not go and continue to dwell in bad habits, guilt, shame, or rejection.
We strive to assist others to heal from trauma, improve relationships, develop healthy boundaries, build self-worth, and reach goals. Our passion is to draw out the God-given strengths and abilities of each individual to fulfill their purpose. This is how we heal, grow and thrive.
